The most famous design week in the world ends with unprecedented success. In fact, Milan Design Week 2024 closes with these numbers (provided by Fuorisalone.it): 1125 events in the Fuorisalone Guide with 838 connected brands, an online audience of 630 thousand users, grown by 23% compared to 2023 and coming from 162 different Countries. A triumph for the Milanese city which, as per tradition, comes alive with installations, displays, shows and events in all its main areas, during the Salone del Mobile, a point of reference for furniture and design throughout the world .
Fundamental stage during the Milan design Week 2024? Tortona, the 1st design district
Where to start from to tour the Fuorisalone? Even in 2024 the answer is “Tortona”. As told in the INTERNI interview with Gisella Borioli (creator of Superstudio Più), the Tortona district can be defined as the first design district of Milan. In fact, in 2000 Superstudio 13, then in via Forcella 13, chose to acquire new warehouses in via Tortona 27 to create an artistic cultural exhibition center with a focus on art, fashion, design and innovation. The neighborhood thus begins to witness various events, to the point of becoming a real “temporary exhibition space”, as today with Tortona Design Week.
The Milan Design Week 2024 in Via Tortona aims to “highlight the connection between the exhibition itinerary and the territorial context […] creating a dialogue between past, present and future, between local and international elements, between tradition and innovation.” Here is the “Walk of Design” theme through the iconic places: from the imposing complex of the Ex Ansaldo, the Opificio 31, the Ponte degli Artisti or the Decor Lab, the personalized decoration laboratory in Milan, chosen by Ambientha to present the new wallpaper collection: METAMÒRPHOSIS – Precious Wallpaper Collection.
The lab of the customisable decorations at number 37
Ambientha wallpapers welcome you to the showroom and experiential space in Via Tortona 37 for the third consecutive year. Contemporary trompe l’Oeil, perspective paintings, suggestions from ancient times first and then from pop art, characterize the installation of the Fuorisalone 2024: on display in their exclusive designs to see first-hand and touch the quality, to then be personalized with extreme attention to detail and tailor-made for each project, both residential and contract, as in a design atelier in the Cerro Maggiore laboratory.
The international design community: the Fuorisalone 2024 in Isola District
From the Isola.design project the Fuorisalone moves to the Bosco Verticale district for the eighth edition of the Isola Design Festival. For 2024 the format discovers 3 new hubs: Lampo Milano, a large urban redevelopment project of the historic railway yard Farini (an area of 40 thousand m2), the co-working hub WAO PL7, Stecca 3.0, a socio-cultural center to which adds the Bonelli Gallery. The annual theme chosen for 2024, “This Future is Currently Unavailable”, spurs action. Food for thought and an invitation to act; it is the idea that “design does not only concern the sphere of sustainability, but represents the engine for facing the challenges of the real world” as stated by Gabriele Cavallaro, co-founder and CEO of Isola.design. In the hubs, and throughout the design district, we thus witness exhibitions, installations and a rich program of talks, workshops, live demonstrations and design shops.

Design beyond the screen: the value of the object/project seen online
What is the true value of the object/project seen online? We tried to answer this question with the journalist Riccardo Chiozzotto at the Milan Design Week 2024 during the talk which saw the participation of Alessandra Nazzari, co-founder of Ambientha, together with Pietro Petrillo, Nunzia Ponsillo, Teo Sandigliano designer, and Paolo Metaldi, design director and illustrator.
Milan Design Week 2024 – Isola Design Talk
“In the constantly changing digital age, the role of the designer has radically transformed, adapting to the online world with new methodologies for creating and enjoying design. Consumers have welcomed this evolution, finding online design an accessible and engaging way to satisfy one’s aesthetic and functional needs. However, the critical question emerges as to whether, beyond the marketing and aesthetics prevalent on social media and in online stores, the designer still attaches value to the design process itself fundamental questions about the balance between commercial and creative aspects in the world of digital design. It highlights the importance of keeping the essence and originality of the project alive, even in a digital context characterized by visibility and immediacy.” Do you want to delve deeper into the topic of the talk? Among the partners of the collective showroom, and the participations in the Milan Design Week 2024, also the new bathroom furniture pieces from the AMA Luxury Shower or the furniture solutions for the contract by Brugnotto Group.
