Andrea Bertoletti began collaborating with Ambientha in July 2019 for the creation of artistic wallpapers, an interior decoration field already known by Andrea but in a completely different way. From murals, even the decorative ones inside homes, he begins to experiment with a new working method: manual and digital. His first wallpaper is Fate Line, sophisticated and welcoming inspired by the deep connection between man and nature. In fact Climate Conscious is the first theme of the Inspiration Book 2019 chosen by Andrea to start this new artistic journey.
Ambientha Andrea Bertoletti interview
Tell us something about yourself Andrea, which are the passions you can’t live without?
I love being in nature and walking by myself. I love listening to sounds, words, noises and silences. I love stopping along rivers and streams, I find the sound of water highly inspirational. I love spending my time observing what surrounds me, the frenetic pace of the city watched by a cafè table, the slowness of the leaves moved by the wind or the rain running down the car windows. All this helps me take MY time back. One of my greatest passions is photography, as a record, to be combined with writing and drawing, I’m a notebook and camera kind of person. I am not a photographer, it represents for me a way of capturing moments and details, writing thoughts and sketching what comes on my mind, something which might eventually be the background of a new masterpiece.
Single artworks, murales and interior design. Can you tell us something more about your projects, so different from one another?
I have two different approaches for the realization of my artworks. For what concerns the commissioned works both for exteriors and interiors, everything starts with a request coming from the client and a discussion over the subject, the piece dimensions and the materials to use. In such a way I try to interpret the core idea with my style. It often happens that those who reach out to me have already seen my artworks on some event, on the web or around the city, this enables me to have the confidence needed from the client for realizing my pieces without restraints. The dialogue with those who believe in what you do and support you is very important, there is always a close liaison between artists and collectors. The single pieces, or in any case those that come from a sort of expression need of mine, have a longer creative process. Many of these originate from considerations on everyday life, further deepened through books and research. Others, instead, originate from my direct experience or my personal feelings concerning a place or an event. The materials used for my artworks are several, from the reworking of objects found in peculiar places such as abandoned villas, interrupted construction sites, former psychiatric hospitals all the way to the latest 3D print. What is important to me is to transmit a thought to the observer, which is just a cue to think through and share.
Have you had a specific moment or event that has led you to choose art as a profession?
I can’t think of a specific moment, I just remember I was very young and my grandma Nilde had been talking for a long time about a cousin of hers, Ursella, a famous Friulian painter of the early 20th century. I was so intrigued by this story that shortly after I began drawing on whatever surface, sheets of paper were never enough. With this constant thought in my head, I was about 8 or 9 years old, I started writing my name under the school desks or on the chairs, imagining that, one day, I could have become an artist as well and someone would have been interested in my drawings. Childhood dreams, and just like those who dreamed of becoming astronauts, I was looking for my space as well. I never stopped drawing, it’s a journey that lasts forever and will never end. Art to me is not only a profession but it represents the chance of saying to the world, I’m alive. It is the expression of my identity.
How do your artworks come to life? How would you describe your style?
My work is multifaceted, especially in the latest years. I’m interested in several things, but many of them sooner or later bore me and I move on. What I do is living here and now, I try to absorb the aspects of the society we live in for better or worse and set out to the creation of my pieces.
Fate Line wallpaper originates from the footprint of a leaf. Do you want to tell us about your artistic research and how you have realized your first design in collaboration with Ambientha?
Fate Line has at its core a very dear concept to me, more relevant than ever, man-nature relationship. The title comes from the juxtaposition of the central grain of the leaf to the hand destiny line, thus indicating that the future of the world lies within our hands. If we stop thinking to the plants for a while, we realize they’re not that different from us, we have feet firmly stuck to the ground, a stem supporting us and branches allowing us to expand into the surrounding space, we are influenced by the seasons, the changings and we can spot the signs of time on our skin. Fate Line is to be considering a manifesto or a scream for those who believe, just like me, that the destiny of the planet lies in our hands. Those who will have the chance of applying this wallpaper, will be able to follow all the magnified grains of the leaves with their own eyes, tracking the lymph that, such as blood, runs over and brings life, and they will thus discover how close we are linked together.
Ambientha music playlists originate as musical accompaniments for the environments in which our products are placed. Which track do you think is the most suitable for the wallpaper you designed, Turning Destiny?
While I was realizing the figure that would eventually give birth to Turning Destiny, I used to listen over and over to Fleurs vinyl by Franco Battiato. It includes a song which draws inspiration and takes its title from the poetry “Invitation to travel” by Baudelaire. Because of the atmosphere this poetry/song is able to generate, I believe it represents the suitable accompaniment for the eyes.
Let’s part this way, are you planning new expositions we can’t miss?
The first date not to be missed will be the third of July, Milan will host a very interesting exhibition full of artists worldwide, with very notorious names within the art world. It will be held at A60 Contemporary Art Space and characterized by a strong title “The Art of Life”, by E. Gregolin and P. Wang. In conclusion, I would like to congratulate and express all my gratitude to Ambientha team for warmly supporting the Fate Line project and for their care towards very meaningful thematics.
